On the initiative of the Ministry of the Interior, the government granted permission for the construction of the new police headquarters on 3 September 1992, based on the plans of József Finta, architect and winner of the Kossuth and two-time Ybl Miklós and Prima Primissima prizes. Work began in the autumn of 1994 and the Police Administration Centre, commonly known as the Police Palace, was finally inaugurated on 1 October 1997 in Teve Street in the District XIII.

Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters and the fire professions, is commemorated on the fourth of May. The day is also an opportunity for the emergency services to recognise their most outstanding staff. On the Friday before the holiday, a wreath-laying ceremony at the organisation's headquarters was followed by a traditional event attended by almost 200 colleagues, who were not only honoured in a speech but also in a tribute.
