Police culture – Theoretical examination of the higher education and the organisational frameworks of police in the light of action against prejudice

Abstract

In this study, the author examines the Hungarian Police in the light of police culture. The author’s investigation focuses on “frameworks” against prejudice, and seeks to answer whether intercultural knowledge may fill some gap in police culture. The study examines the conditions of admission to the organization, the selection system, higher education of police, and legal and ethical regulations for police officers. Although intercultural knowledge has not been incorporated into the higher education of police in Hungary, the training includes a thorough knowledge of the relevant legislation, Hungarian minorities and social groups, as well as prejudices; the author did not find any shortage that would support prejudices.
