Aim: The aim of the research is to apply situational crime prevention methods to improve road safety, focusing on pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic. This study examines the relationship between road safety and situational
crime prevention and how it can be used to protect pedestrians.
Methodology: The Finnish model, using the Vision Zero concept, provides an example of how to improve road safety. The analysis shows that road safety is a complex system that affects both human behaviour and environmental factors,
and that the situational crime prevention method can be used effectively to improve road safety.
Findings: The success of the Finnish model is supported by lower speed limits, strict controls and public support. Vision Zero is spreading as a global movement to address road safety as a public health issue.
Value: The research highlights the importance of road safety and the key role of prevention in avoiding tragedies.
