This paper examines the selection system of the Federal Police of Austria. To present this, the general organizational and educational characteristics, the process of recruitment, the personal and the qualification criteria, furthermore the eligibility requirements were studied. The research was performed by collecting and analyzing the English and Austrian open sources and the relevant literature. Previously, this topic was only partially addressed in Hungary, therefore it can be considered as knowledge-expanding and suppletory. The conclusion of the article is that the structure of police selection in Austria is based on personal and qualification criteria, and together with the eligibility requirements, among them mental performance is stressed the most.
