Are there criminogenic occupations?

Abstract

Aim: The author discusses some problems of the relationship between occupations and crime, with particular reference to the literature on the subject.
Methodology: Based on international literature and domestic statistics, the author reviews some issues of the relationship between occupations and crime. Issues related to problems of career criminals are also addressed.
Findings: The Author comes to the conclusion that there is no simple causal link connecting them. Individual characteristics may influence the choice of a profession while circumstances of different jobs also have impact on the possibilities of and inclination to commit certain offences.
Value: Finally, some recommendations to prevent and detect occupational crime are formulated.
