Development and future of higher education in disaster management

Abstract

Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the main results and experiences of the establishment and development of higher education in disaster management, on the basis of which to determine the aim and content of future educational development measures.
Methodology: The impact study prepared within the framework of this paper introduce the organizational development history of the higher education courses in disaster management, the current situation of the courses, their professional and scientific substantiation, and makes structured proposals for possible education developments.
Findings: The Institute for Disaster Management, which has been operating based on predecessor organizations since 2012, provides higher education training for professionals in organizations involved in disaster management, in line with university strategies and beneficiary needs. The training portfolio developed within the framework of law enforcement higher education provides an opportunity to modernize the basic’s and master’s degree education in disaster management and its professional training courses in accordance with the legal, professional, technical, and scientific development of disaster management itself.
Value: The disaster management higher education’s organization and institutional development experiences processed in the framework of present study provide an adequate basis for ensuring a high level of education that meets the needs of beneficiary institutions and students as well.
