ORCID/DOI offers individual digital identification about authors of announcements nationally and internationally. OJS (Open Journal Systems) mean an open-source solution for online publication and treatment of scientific journals.

Among the submenus the Author’s Declaration needs a registration.

Open Journal Systems (OJS) is an open-source software for publication and management of academic journals. Belügyi Szemle makes for authors the login screen by application of the OJS 3.0 system accessible, after an administrator’s registration, from 15.05.2020.

Guide for Authors

General publishing principles

The periodical Belügyi Szemle accepts and publishes scientific and professional messages in connection first of all with questions of law enforcement, public order and public safety, safety politics, self-governing, social deviance, and further analyses and evaluates questions of law enforcement from point of views of criminal sociology, criminal law and policing. Beside them we also offer space for papers of water management, psychology, medicine, and other bordering scientific areas.

When confirming the receipt of a message the Editorship informs the authors about acceptance and expectable publishing of the manuscripts sent in.

The authors of Belügyi Szemle do not pay or receive remuneration by any eligibility for the publication of scientific papers.

The corrected versions (assessed by experts) and the printed and electronic (pdf) versions of the publication, versions of the papers sent to the editorship of Belügyi Szemle for publication, the Open Access notifications publicised according to the international licence conditions of Creative Commons Attribution 4.0  can be published, shared and logged in in any media, according to (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0) ( https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/ ), assuming that that name of the author, the place of publication and the CC license link are indicated.

Extent

The acceptable extent is in case of papers 20-40.000 characters (about 10-20 pages). The manuscript may contain diagrams and pictures, too. In the first footnote of the manuscript should be noted support resources, in case they are relevant. The extent of reports, reviews should not exceed 8-12.000 characters (about 4-8 pages).

Structure and form of announcement

The announcement begins with the name of the author (centred, font Times New Roman, size 12, boldface type). Place the title of the announcement under the name of the author (centred, font Times New Roman, size 15, boldface type) and its English translation (centred, font Times New Roman, size 12, simple type).

They are followed by a Hungarian and an English abstract of maximal 2000-2500 characters, and five keywords in Hungarian and five in English. (1,5 line spacing, font: Times New Roman, size: 11). Beside indication of author, title, abstract and key words of the message on the website we ask to announce the thesis of the article in maximal 2500 character to call attention the article (New abstract project guidelines). The indication of the thesis is not a precondition for publication, it only supports media marketing goals on the website.

The text of the announcement should be written with 1,5 line spacing, Times New Roman fonts, size 11, the bibliography is placed as closing of the manuscript. Specially marked parts within the text should be written in italics in case of literalness. Boldface fonts should be used exclusively for chapter titles. Chapter titles should be presented unenumerated in Times New Roman, size 13, boldface fonts. Change of character spacing, MAJUSCULE (certain elements or parts of the text in CAPITAL LETTERS), small capitals and underlining must not be used in the manuscript.

Please send the complete manuscript in .docx format to the e-mail address of our Editorship szerkesztoseg@belugyiszemle.hu.

The downloadable and editable form Author’s declaration you can find in the submenu Author’s Declaration. Please send it immediately after completing to our Editorship by clicking on the Resend button. In case of papers of several authors please complete the form for each author.

References

Belügyi Szemle applies the reference system of APA (American Psychological Association) and expects the application of this system by the authors. APA is one of the most widespread reference systems internationally. APA style means a reference system for texts, which immediately offers a look at the sources of information for the readers. Text references typically include author’s name, date of publication and page number of the text mentioned. The detailed regulation system of this style we declare afterwards. The uniform APA reference system has to be applied from the issue 7-8/2019 of Belügyi Szemle.

The Editorship of Belügyi Szemle asks the authors to follow the reference regulations of The Official Guide to APA style, 7th edition as follows.

1. Reference to journal articles with DOI identification

At the identification of the authors’ name, family name is written first in each case. It is followed by the initial of the first name. In case of Hungarian authors there is no need of a comma after the family name. Except in case of a reference to a Hungarian author in a publication in English. In case of foreign authors put a comma after the family name, then comes the year of publication in brackets, closed by a dot. This is followed by the title of the article, then the name of the journal and the year (both in italics), then the issue nr in the given year and the page number. The exact reference is closed by the DOI identification. In case of two authors the names are separated by an & (ampersand) sign. In case of more than two authors the ampersand is put in front of the last author. All the other authors are separated by a comma.

For example:

McCauley, S. M. & Christiansen, M. H. (2019). Language learning as language use: A cross-linguistic model of chlld language development. Psychological Review, 126(1), 1-51. https://doi.org/10.1037/rev0000126

A speciality of the reference system is the indication on the concerned work in the main part with family name of the author and year in brackets. For example: (McCauley & Christiansen, 2019). In case of three to five authors the names of each author are given in the first reference. For example: (Kovács-Széles, Almási, Balaskó, Bíró & Bodor, 2020). In further references within the same work is the expression et al (and colleagues) to use. In case of six, or more authors the family name of the first author, the expression et al and the year of publication is indicated. For example: (McCauley et al., 2019).

In case of reference to more than one work of an author published in the same year the works are put in alphabetic order after the author’s name. For example: (Kovács, 2019a; Kovács, 2019b).

In reference of authors with the same family name the family name and the first letter of the first names of the authors should be indicated for distinction. For example: R. Kovács, 2019; B. Kovács, 2019).

2. Reference to book with DOI identification

The difference from a reference to a journal article is that the indication of the publisher is mandatory and the title is in italics. In the main text the family name of the author and the year of publication is indicated in brackets. For example: (Brown, 2018).

Brown, L. S. (2018). Feminist therapy. American Psychological Association. https://doi.org/10.1037/0000092-000

3. Reference to chapters in edited works

References to chapters in edited works (study book, conference book) should be taken as follows. Departing from reference forms mentioned above, the name of the editors will be given after the title, according to the example, with the indication In. It is followed by (Szerk) in a reference in Hungarian or (Eds) in an English reference. The name of the bordering work is separated by a comma, then are the page numbers of the referenced work given in brackets. Both in Hungarian and English versions, the form pp. page number is applied. It is followed by the publisher and the DOI identification. In the main text, the family name of the author and the year of publication are indicated in brackets. For example: (Balsam, Martell, Jones & Safren, 2019). The rule for more authors is to apply also in this case.

For example:

Balsam, K. F., Martell, C. R., Jones, K. P. & Safren, S. A. (2019). Affirmative cognitive behavior therapy with sexual and gender minority people. In Iwamasa, G. Y. & Hays, P. A (Eds.), Culturaly responsive cognitive behavior therapy: Practice and supervision (pp. 287-314). American Psychological Association. https://doi.org/10.1037/0000119-012

4. Online references

In case of a reference to internet script, website the name of the author should be indicated if available. Without author the title of the referenced internet content should be indicated. The title is in italics. This is followed by the URL linkTime of download is not needed, but before the final publication it has to be controlled whether the referenced URL link is active. In the main text, the internet references are supplied with rolling line numbering and this order is applied in the bibliography, too. For example: (URL1), (URL2) etc. URL-references should be indicated at the end of the bibliography, unconsidered the alphabetic order.

URL1: Valletta Declaration on Road Safety, 29 March 2017 Valletta

https://www.eu2017.mt/en/Documents/Valletta_Declaration_on_Improving_Road_Safety.pdf

5. Reference to applied legal regulations

The list of applied legal regulations helps the readers to look at the legal regulation (act, decree, etc.) mentioned or indicated in certain parts of the text. In each case the exact bulletin status of the legal regulation is to indicate. In the main text (if indispensable) a footnote can be applied to indicate the legal regulations.

6. Application of figures, charts, pictures,

Denomination and title are to place over a chart inserted in the main material. Numbering is written in bold and title in italics. It is important, that authors have to use the font Times New Roman for figures and charts everywhere. Unnecessary spatial impacts/shades/backdrops can cause confusions in interpretation of graphs and in fast orientation among data.

For example: graph 1Publication plan of Belügyi Szemle for 2021

The source indication should be placed under the inserted material. Source in italics, double dot and preference. It might be an internet reference, the indication of author and year, ended by a dot. Brackets are not needed.

For example: Source: Kovács, 2021.

For example: Source: URL2.

For example: Source: Chart made by the author.

Further information

Please translate texts of diagrams in foreign languages into Hungarian or attach the translation of the foreign words. In Hungarian text please use decimal commas and not decimal points, for quotations in the text please always indicate their sources. In case the author uses not own-made illustrations, please indicate their sources. It is duty and responsibility of the author to clear copyright owners, and in that case if something is not for free use the author must get approval for publication. For each publication in a scientific periodical is indispensable obligation the author(s)’ declaration that the paper is own intellectual creation and property. The author’s declaration you can complete after opening the submenu Author’s Declaration.

Bibliography

The list of references should be given in each case at the end of the announcement, in alphabetic order. Bibliography and footnotes can exclusively contain reference to the Bibliography.

In case of references to several studies of the same author(s) in the same year, they should be differenced by a, b, c etc. notations both in references within the text and in the Bibliography. The bibliographic data have to correspond in the text and in the bibliography.

In the text, please indicate the full name of persons or institutes at first appearance. Please indicate the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) code of the recited articles according to the above-mentioned regulations. The indication of DOI is obligatory in the bibliography. CrossRef agency allocates several search machines for own database, which can help to check whether the announcements in the referenced bibliography have a DOI identification registered at CrossRef. We suggest you to use the website https://doi.crossref.org/simpleTextQuery  for searching DOI identifications, which is a free applicable searching machine with a limitation of 5000 pcs per month, and here can be even the full bibliography copied into one search.

In papers in English language, we ask you to visualise the titles of Hungarian announcements quoted in the bibliography in English, too.

Review

Reviews will be published in form and content as usual in professional periodicals. Belügyi Szemle expects reviews of about 8-12.000 characters. Author(s) should try to use scientific interpretation formulated in plain language.

Please try to get a title page photo from the publisher of the reviewed work, which we would publish to call more attention. Bibliophilic data – author, editor, compiler, etc, complete title. (series) place of publication, publisher, year, total page number– please indicate at the end of the text in brackets. Further are the same requirements valid for reviews as for papers.

Submission of manuscripts

As a monthly periodical Belügyi Szemle does not send page proofs to the authors but sends an edited version of the publication for checking before reconciliation, asking to overview and send it back within two workdays. In case that there are only smaller corrections of linguistic correctness and stylistics needed, not affecting the essential content of the message, we dispense with returning it to the author. In case that after the blind review the specialist peer reviewer proposes a revision of the paper, the author will get attached the list of proposed corrections to the edited version with an appropriate deadline set. In case of delayed return, the paper might be published with considerable delay. In case the message is corrected accordingly, it will be published.

Deadlines

This periodical is planned to be published on the 15th of each month. Submission of manuscripts is ongoing. We ask our authors to take into consideration that publishing of submitted manuscripts needs 3-6 months, with respect to year’s and half year’s publication schedules.

Eventual remarks, questions we await at the e-mail address: szerkesztoseg@belugyiszemle.hu.
