Addictions in Hungary - Review

Abstract

Aim: The first book of a scientific series entitled „Addiction Problems in Hungary: Situation in the light of population surveys” was published in 2021. The aim of this review is to present the results of the latest nationally representative Hungarian surveys, which provide a reliable picture of the legal and illegal drug use of the adult population in Hungary.
Methodology: This book review is based on content analysis methodology and subjective evaluation of the results. The review follows the structure of the book, but presents the main findings grouped according to the legal classification of the different psychoactive substances.
Findings: The book describes in detail the most important characteristics of drug use among the Hungarian adult population. The authors also present not only the current results, but also trends over the past two decades.
Value: This data is essential for the planning of an effective prevention and treatment strategy. On the other hand, the presented data may be also interesting for legal and law enforcement researchers and practitioners because of the legal and law enforcement implications of substance use.
